UBC Integrated Neuroimaging Suite

The Integrated Neuroimaging Suite is a multi-million-dollar research facility in the Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health at the University of British Columbia. This unique suite will accelerate brain research and drive critical advancements in neurodegenerative diseases. The suite houses two different advanced research MRI scanner models, making this cutting-edge centre a first-of-its-kind.

Zenith’s role included overseeing the integration of the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, security, and life safety components under this project into the existing building systems and ensuring that services are tested and operating in preparation for the installation of the MRI scanners by their respective teams.

The unique challenge of this project was the cutting-edge technology. Both the 3T MRI and PET scanners and the state-of-the-art heat pumps were the first of their kind in Canada, requiring direct manufacturer involvement to optimize this unprecedented project. Zenith collaborated with all trades to find effective solutions to integrate different and new technologies and in troubleshooting the existing base building systems to accept the new and advanced systems. Our team also worked with the facility staff to bring the team on board with the new protocols and requirements.

By foreseeing potential issues, understanding the systems’ integration, and empowering trades, Zenith provided value within the UBC commissioning mandate.
