Upper Skeena Recreation Centre

Utilizing an innovative joint owner-operator model, this new recreation centre addresses the needs of the area’s population, with a specific focus on youth activity.

The Upper Skeena Recreation Centre replaced an existing ice arena and recreation centre to be able to include programs for a variety of sport, cultural and community-focused events to address the challenges that small, remote communities often face.

The wood-based construction has been designed as a prototype for future BC arenas, with specific consideration for the needs of this northern BC location. Zenith was excited to provide commissioning authority and commissioning coordination services for this community-based project as it directly aligns with our company mission statement.

Developing close relationships with the design team and trades allowed for continued engagement, despite the remote location of the project and the planning and logistics needed to get teams on site. The severe climate also provided challenges to the systems during the handover period. Zenith was able to assist during this period and enabled the facility to keep operating, as the team was able to manually operate the building while making the necessary operational changes within the systems.
